Facebook, the second-place social network in that survey, clocked in at 43 percent, less than half of LinkedIn.

Tip #1: Optimize for Search

Search engine optimization (SEO) was once solely the domain of a small group of professionals. These word wizards seemed to unlock improved search engine rankings through a combination of expert algorithm analysis and alchemy. These days though, everybody should be a little bit of an SEO expert.

One way to stand out in search is to strategically deploy keywords throughout your profile. Become familiar with the industry-specific terminology that professionals use to describe traits, position titles and skills in your field. Then decide which keywords resonate with the people who might hire you for the kind of job that you’d like.

Be careful not to overuse keywords, but place them where it feels natural in your profile. Make sure all sections of your profile are complete, including the current position and headline fields, so that you can be located through additional search terms.
